What is Love?
Is it a feeling, an emotion or a psychological illusion that attracts people together to live as though they were made for each other,
long before their existence on Earth? Or it’s just a name given to whatever we think it is that does what it does,
or Love is just how we understand it to be…
What is Lust?
Is it the feeling that attracts people together to fall, stand or lay in love?
Or it’s just an emotion that the masses mistaken for love, or lust is actually love,
or it is what it is, or it’s how you define it to be, or its all a lie?
Then what’s a Lie?
Is it the absence of the truth, or the opposite of not saying the truth? Or Lie is the foundation that
lies below every “I love you”? Maybe Lie is, not explaining to those you love it’s actually lust that
brought you to them, or maybe everything about love and lust is a lie.
Thus, what shall we say of love, lust and lies in a season like this?
How much Lust makes a Love?
How less of a Love breeds a Lie?
How much Lie breaks a Love?
Can lies make a love last?
Can love turn lust into lies
Can lust and lies save a love?

EnvironWoMenTal Poetry Slam: A Case for the Environment
The National Theatre of Ghana in collaboration with Ehalakasa, will be staging a literati lyrical battle; a Case of the Environment dubbed EnvironWoMenTal Poetry Slam. On Saturday December 21, the sun will rise and shine, the sky will be clear and the midair around the Folks Place of The National Theatre of Ghana in Accra will become fresh and breezy. At about 7pm the stage area will be transformed into something similar to the Bukom Arena for the first and last bout of 2019.
Over the years Ehalakasa has been advancing the course of performance Art in Ghana and beyond. We are very passionate over issues affecting the environment and other related matters. As part of our corporate social responsibility, Ehalakasa, working actively in the creative Art industry; which is now considered the verbal space industry, deem it necessary to use this medium to voice out our position and make a case for the Environment. Poetry slam, is a form of art that allows spoken word artists engage in a 3 round competitive creative lyrical battle.
In this slam Judges will be selected from amongst the audience present with two environmental activists specially invited to oversee and also judge. 10 pre-selected poets will be slamming their own original self-written pieces (case) with or without props. We are glad to be having 2 young dynamic International Guest Performance poets from Abidjan – Côte d’Ivoire, C’Katcha and Adam-Mots to grace the night with us.
Winners of this slam will serve as Green Ambassadors for a year working alongside our partner organizations such as the Church of Climate Change, Plastic Punch and Cultural Crossing to help create more awareness on the need and how to safe guard our environment. We are also happy to announce that the overall winner of this slam will be representing Ghana in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia November 2020 during the 2nd edition of the Africa Cup of Slam Poetry.
Sarah Güsten-Marr, Director of Gallery GM in the UK has offered a conditional prize package of Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (Ghc 5,000) for the first three winners and this will assist them to executing their winning projects.

The wave of spoken word poetry has infectiously caught up over the years and this presents a very exciting moment in the development of the genre in Ghana. Ehalakasa, as a major proponent, is striving to groom and ensure the growth of both the active poets and the genre itself. In this spirit, we feature our second spoken word poet for 2014 in April— Kwame Write.
This young impassioned and vociferous lyricist/poet will be backed by an ensemble. Kwame Write has earned an award from the Scrabble Association of Ghana, hence the pseudonym “Write”. Once nominated for the International Best Amateur Poet by World Poetry Organisation, he believes that words, rhythm, art and positive passion are great tools for educating and inspiring his generation. Kwame Write earned a BSc in biochemistry and biotechnology from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology in 2009. He founded Inkfluent which produced Vocal Portraits(https://soundcloud.com/vocalportraits); a spoken word compilation that brought together 15 artists from 3 continents: Africa, America and Europe.
It is always exciting when two art disciplines interact while preserving their essence. Kwame will serve savvy lyricism over experimental traditional folk music. Our myriad of poets/performers will be present to educate and entertain. You can join the open mic segment of the show. The Nubuke Bar will be open as well to serve your favourite drinks and food.
This event will be followed up with THE CADENCE on Wednesday 30th April — our Jazz/Poetry event for La Paillote Takpekpe in collaboration with Alliance Francaise for the LIVE IN ACCRA Jazz Festival. Venue: Nubuke Foundation, near Mensvic Grand Hotel, East Legon

EHALAKASA SLAM FINALS
The previous four slams (March, May, July and September) produced moments of pulsating spoken word lyricism. You are invited to this month’s EHALAKASA SLAM FINALS as twelve poets (three winners from each of the four previous slams) duel it out lyrically in the Finals. Who becomes the Ehalakasa 2014 Slam Champion?
