Accra’s Goethe Institut Library was set ablaze with words on [date] as EHALAKASA hosted the National Grand Slam Accra Prelims 2024, a night where lyrical dexterity and raw emotion took center stage.
The event, a three-round battle of poetic brilliance, showcased the diversity and depth of Ghana’s spoken word community. From ancestral messages delivered by Kai Nananom to the spellbinding rhymes of Belle, the competition proved that slam poetry continues to thrive as a powerful medium for storytelling and social change.
Jewell King-Speaks emerged victorious with a commanding 89 points, crafting poetry that resonated deeply with the audience. Following closely were Soyo Vi Zibo and King Yaw, who tied at 88 points, their performances a testament to the high stakes of the evening. Diamond King-Speaks secured third place with an impressive 85 points, while Efako Dee, Baby Poet, and Kai Nananom rounded out the finalists with stellar scores.
As the six finalists join others already qualified, the stage is set for an epic showdown at the Grand Finals on December 30, 2024.
