SLAM Winners

Ibrahim Saani (SLAM Champion 2017)

Ibrahim Saani emerged as SLAM champion for the year 2017.

As part of his reward, he participated in the 2nd Edition of the International Slam festival in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. The event took place on the 5th -7th April 2018.

Jewell King (SLAM Champion 2016)

Jewell King is the 2016 SLAM Champion of the Ehalakasa SLAM. He started poetry in Junior Secondary School and managed to get two of his poems into the Junior Graphic.

Aside triumphing as the SLAM Champion, Jewell has graced a number of stages including Chaskele, a spoken word show based in Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology – KNUST.

Jewell feels that the world has problems and the only way to change it is through spoken word. He believes he is on a mission to spread the word about life and its truth through poetry.

He aspires to travel the world and continue performing till he can no more do so.

Hondred Percent (SLAM Champion 2014 & 2015)

Hondred Percent aka Paul Forjoe jnr is a rising spoken word artist in Accra and he’s made quite a name for himself as a prolific wordsmith within Ghana.

His work is inspired by HipHop music and pidgin narratives and perspectives of Ghanaian politics. Hondred Percent went from struggling to express himself as an artist to owning a distinctive style and performance routine.

Hondred Percent in 2014 and 2015 triumphed as the overall winner of the Ehalakasa Slam in which over 40 poets in Ghana contested.

He is the founder of MiCheck, an organization whose core focus is to promote and improve the arts in Ghana.

He is set to release his first album in 2017.

Mutumbo Da Poet (SLAM Champion 2009)

Mutombo Da Poet is a Ghanaian spoken word artist that came on the spoken word scene in 2006. He was a resident poet of the open mic show, Bless The Mic and was the first poet to perform as a guest on the TV3 reality show Mentor.

Mutombo is the winner of the first Ehalakasa SLAM held at Alliance Francaise in 2009. He has performed at numerous shows in Ghana and has released a number of spoken word tracks, including a spoken word album dubbed PHOTOSENTENCES in 2012.

He is an avid photographer with a focus on social and environmental issue. He won the best Tumblr in Ghana in 2014 and was on Instagram’s Suggested list in November 2014.
